WELCOME TO BASIC SCIENCE DEPARTMENT

The Basic Science Department started in the year 2007. The first crop of students for the Department was recruited in 2008.

RATIONALE
Basic Science Department started in order to carter Basic Science courses necessary to all Diploma programmes (Biomedical Sciences and Clinical Medicine) recruited at this College. As from 2014, the Department includes first year students who are persuing Bachelor of Science programmes, introduced to the College in 2012. It is strongly felt that all generic students in these different programmes must be given a strong foundation of Basic Science courses, required in the study of medical sciences.

PERIOD OF TEACHING AND LECTURERS
The Courses are taught in a year done in 2 semesters of 18 weeks each. Expert Lecturers are drawn from all the Departments, including, where necessary, Nursing Department. Whenever additional/special Lecturers are required, adjunct Lecturers are sourced from other quarters to teach the course.

TARGETED STUDENTS
This programme as pointed out already, targets all Generic Diploma and Bachelor of Science students from all programmes, except those persuing Diploma in Nursing and midwifery. Plans are underway to encorporate generic Nursing students under Basic Science Department.

STAFFING
The academic staff comprises; Mr. Wesly Y. Kamwendo, who is also the Head of Department, Mr. Victor P. Nkungula, Miss Njova Tembo, Ps. Jack Nazombe and Ps. Dr. Gladson Thumbalamoto.
